Our Services

Church Services

Sunday services are a mixture of the traditional and sometimes the slightly unconventional. It's easy to follow our program--even for first time visitors. Our choir sings, accompanied by piano and drums. We have quiet time for silent meditation. Our minister usually delivers a sermon and children often perform a part of the service before they leave for Sunday School.

Periodically we will hear from a member of the congregation or an outside speaker in lieu of a minister's sermon. During the past year we even have had two Jazz Sundays when a lively band concert has substituted for most of the service formalities.

Please feel free to dress casually and comfortably. Most members wear casual clothes although you will also see a few coats and ties and business dresses. We think this is a reflection of the freedom of thought that prevails at the Fellowship.

After the service members and visitors are invited to share coffee and conversation in the Gathering Room. We'll make you feel welcome.

Our "Fellowship" page has more details on our worship center buildings.

Our Minister

Neil Anderson

Our minister, Neal T. Anderson, is new to the fellowship. He was selected following a national search and confirmed by a vote of the membership. His engaging, articulate sermons and enthusiastic presence are unmistakable.

He received his M. Div. degree from the Starr King School for the Ministry, Berkeley, Calif. He also has a B.A. and M.Ed. degree from the University of Saskatchewan. Prior to coming to Reno, Rev. Anderson was intern minister with the West Shore Unitarian Universalist Church in Cleveland, Ohio.

Deeply involved in the environmental movement in Canada, Rev. Anderson was a teacher before entering the ministry. A sign at a Unitarian Universalist church that read, "Freedom of Religious Thought" was the starting point for his call to the ministry.

Orientation meetings

On the second Sunday of each month at 11:45 a.m. we have a Visitors' Orientation. This is where you will gain an overview of Unitarian Universalism and our congregation. Orientations last 30-40 minutes.

On the third Sunday of each month at 11:45 a.m. we have a new members signing, for those who are ready to become members of the church. An overview of membership expectations, including making a financial pledge, will be reviewed.

We're a welcoming community and invite gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender people to join us.
